On December 4, the 14th meeting of directors of China EU two bureaux was held in the form of video. Shen Changyu, director of the State Intellectual Property Office of China, and Antonio camponos, director of the European Patent Office, attended the meeting. At the meeting, the two sides reviewed the cooperation between the two bureaus this year, briefed on the latest progress of their respective intellectual property work, and exchanged in-depth views on future bilateral cooperation, especially the PCT international search unit pilot project of the two bureaus, cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, bilateral cooperation under the framework of cooperation of the five bureaus, and other intellectual property issues of common concern.
Shen Changyu said that since China novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak, China's State Intellectual Property Office has adopted a series of measures to effectively protect the vital interests of the applicant and the obligee. At present, the development of China's intellectual property industry is generally stable, and invention patent applications and trademark applications continue to grow. In the face of the challenge of the epidemic situation, China and the EU have maintained close communication and deepened cooperation, jointly issued a joint statement to deal with the epidemic situation, and launched the pilot project of China EU PCT international search unit. The results of the cooperation between the two bureaus are benefiting more and more users of intellectual property rights between China and Europe, serving the innovation and economic and social development of the two places.
Antonio camponos said that this year, the number of patent applications and authorizations of Chinese applicants in the European Patent Office continued to grow, fully demonstrating the effectiveness of cooperation between the European and Chinese patent offices. The European Patent Office will continue to make efforts to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two bureaus. It is expected that with the joint efforts of the two bureaus, the cooperation between the two bureaus will continue to deepen and achieve more fruitful results in the future.
After the meeting, the two sides signed the 2021 annual work plan for bilateral cooperation between the two bureaus, the supplementary agreement to the memorandum of understanding on data exchange, and relevant Epoque net agreements.
